Attributes, attitudes and behaviors to avoid existential and technological risks

Versión en español

Without pretending to establish well-defined categories, but rather recognizing that they are diffuse and mixed, we can approximately say that the first column shows personality attributes that we need to have, develop and promote. These personality attributes allow us to have attitudes (second column) and behaviors that are what allow us to avoid existential and technological risks.

  • Attributes: Kindness, Courage, Patience, Intelligence and Awareness
  • Attitudes: Honesty, Impartiality, Kindness and Skepticism
  • Behaviors: Transparency, Debate, Cooperation (including regulation) and Prudence or Responsibility

In the case of existential risks associated with Artificial Intelligence, we need

  • Transparency in designs, developments and implementations
  • A healthy debate about the impact of AI
  • International cooperation
  • Prudence

For this, people and institutions must show honesty and impartiality in a friendly and skeptical atmosphere. Education is crucial to develop these attitudes.
