We must protect the future of humanity. Not because the net balance of the human lives is possitive (probably it’s not), and not because humanity is increasing the net balance of sentient lives (at least, we are increasing the number of non-human animals suffering in factory farms), but because humanity is the only group that now has the potential to prevent future suffering and create a world in which the net balance of sentient lives is greater than zero.
