The sequential processing of single-processor computers (or non-parallel algorithms in general, which only have one thread of execution) are metaphors for empty individualism. Through these techniques we can represent worlds in which there are several agents with independent behaviors and that when processed at high speed, it seems that all are moving or acting at the same time, and yet only one agent is processed at any time.
